I believe that design is the shared practice of changing our world. I love complex, data-intense challenges. In a contest between form and function, I say both.

 
 

Designer

 
 

After getting a BFA in Graphic Design at Boston University, I honed my skills at a small studio where I was responsible for designing and producing high-quality, long-form print pieces like books and catalogs, and some websites. Working in a tight-knit team allowed me to learn from some of the best in the industry and gain valuable experience. After a few years, I was ready to take on my own work.

 
 

Strategist

 
 

For the next few years I ran Thinkside, a solo design studio working with small- to medium-sized businesses and nonprofits, doing a wide range of projects from logos to websites. I refined my craft and developed a sensitivity to organizational strategy and the role that design plays in the growth of a business.

 
 

That led to Brand Hack, which I cofounded with a colleague. Our custom-built creative teams gave startups everything they need to launch: name, logo, pitch deck, website, professional portraiture, pitch language and deck – in a single 8-hour sprint. I learned how to lead cross-functional creative teams in fast-paced uncertainty.

 
 

Leader

 
 

My fascination with organizational strategy led me to my first leadership role at Lighter, a software startup that helped people transition to a vegan diet. As the lead and only designer, I worked closely with leaders from engineering and business development. We white-labeled the app for Whole Foods, among other leaders in the nutrition space. I was also teaching at the tech bootcamp General Assembly, and discovered a new passion for teaching.

 
 

After Lighter, I joined HubSpot’s marketing department as Director of Design. I led a team of six and worked closely with the Directors of Engineering and Video to produce web experiences that attracted and retained HubSpot’s customers. I worked with the Product Design team to unify our design systems, and by the end of my tenure we were shipping world-class digital marketing experiences.

 
 

After a couple years consulting as a designer, coach and advisor, I joined Geode Capital, a small and sophisticated investment firm. At just 20 years old, they were managing over a trillion dollars in assets, making them the 37th largest asset manager in the world. Their internal software tools were disconnected and difficult to use, and I was part of a team rebuilding their product operations. I hired and managed a team of three (one UX Researcher and two Product Designers), and after a year we shipped a small suite of new fund management tools.

I’d like to continue in a leader/contributor role as Chief Design Officer, VP of Design, or Design Lead at a startup. I’m interested in tech-driven sustainability and would love to work with some of the amazing designers in Rhode Island, where I recently relocated.
